Bobcat Balance is a new program that consists of two components: 1.) a nationwide database of resources to help you with the daily challenges you face - legal, financial, family or personal, and 2.) an employee assistance program which provides up to five free counseling sessions per problem per year per person.

This program is free. The University pays for this benefit to help you achieve your full potential.

All benefits-eligible faculty, staff and graduate student employees and eligible dependents to include spouse or live-in partner of the same or opposite sex, and children that meet the criteria for coverage under our health insurance program. 

Yes. Other family members living in your household may be able to utilize services, but only if you attend with them.

Yes, if your position is eligible for the health coverage whether you elected it or not, it is a benefits-eligible position and qualifies you to use the program.

Your spouse can call Bobcat Balance themselves. They can let the representative know that they are from the household of employee "X" who works in department "Y" at Texas State.

Yes, Bobcat Balance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Yes, the number is a nationwide, toll-free number with nationwide resources.

All counselors are Masters Level Therapists, with a minimum of 3000 clinical hours, 3 years experience and 300 post practicum hours.

The providers found on the database have to be registered providers and licensure is verified.

Some of the counselors offer evening and weekend appointments; however, if you go during your normal work day you should use sick leave like you would a doctor appointment.

You are encouraged to use the program after work or during breaks. However, depending on the severity of your situation and how quickly you need help, your supervisor has discretion to permit you to access the services during work hours.
